Back in the early days of racing, Ferrari did something different by painting their cars in Modena yellow, the color of their hometown. This decision created a strong connection between the team and where they came from.
During the 1960s, as sponsorship became more common, many teams changed their colors. But Ferrari stuck to their Modena yellow, staying true to tradition even when others didn’t.
In 1964, a disagreement with racing authorities made Enzo Ferrari decide not to represent Italy anymore. The official Ferraris were then entered under a different team, sporting white and blue colors.
At the 1964 Mexican Grand Prix, John Surtees drove a white and blue Ferrari with incredible determination. He clinched the world drivers’ championship on the final lap, in a thrilling finish that’s still talked about today.
