THE STRANGEST VICTORY OF MICHAEL SCHUMACHER’S AT SILVERSTONE

(Reading time 3 minutes)

It’s 1998Silverstone race, Schumacher in Ferrari. This was his 31st win and brought him very close to his main competitor, Hakkinen, with only a two-point difference.

Schumacher was trying to stay ahead of Hakkinen but then Coulthard passed him. The weather made the race even harder as it started to rain heavily, and the drivers had to change their tires to ones suitable for the rain.

Schumacher had a problem because he passed another car when he wasn’t supposed to, due to a yellow flag that signals caution. He was supposed to stop for 10 seconds as a penalty. But, Ross Brawn from Ferrari made a clever move and waited until the very end of the race to take the penalty. This let Schumacher keep his lead.

After crossing the finish line, Schumacher went straight to the pit lane to serve his penalty. Even though the McLaren team complained that Ferrari was told about the penalty too late, Schumacher’s win was still valid.

Schumacher’s win at the 1998 British Grand Prix showed how good he was as a driver and how well the Ferrari team could come up with strategies, making him a true legend in Formula One.
